The Power of Community

I think I mentioned before that this “church in the sky” where my son Kris and daughter-in law-Rachel go is in the Wall Street neighborhood of New York City. Kris is the one I am always bragging about with his recent PhD in education, along with my fire fighter son Michael who lives in Georgia.
Since this time, over ten years ago, they have also rented a high school auditorium space for weekend services. To my knowledge, they have never had their own dedicated building and therefore are more of a nomadic church. The church is also related to the Vineyard Church and The Jesus Movement of the early 60s.
When I first saw the drawings the kids had made of their church, I was amazed. It kind of expanded my brain’s idea and concept of what a church is or could be—or should be. A far cry from the little white, one-story church with a picket fence on the cover of Willie Nelson’s album of hymns. Anyway, “Where two or three are gathered . . . .”
Somewhere on my phone is a picture of the kids’ drawing, but I could not find it—hence the rendition here.
